As we all know, cigarette taxes are not about health.
Government officials claiming to tax smokers for their own good are lying. They know they are being deceptive and so do we.
In trying to increase their budgets on the backs of smokers, state officials are turning ordinarily law abiding citizens into criminals. That's also true. If the taxes weren't so ridiculously high, the online cheap cigarette companies would disappear. Nobody would buy cigarettes online if they could afford to buy them locally. This situation has been created exclusively by badly run state governments.
CNN Money wrote in a recent article,
"Many states have been hiking cigarette taxes for years, claiming that they discourage smoking and contribute much-needed tax revenues to state coffers.
But critics say that starkly higher tax rates have created a prohibition-like environment that fosters black markets and encourages otherwise law-abiding citizens to skirt the law.
What's more, according to one recent study, they don't raise nearly as much tax revenue as one might expect."
Nobody is claiming that tax money isn't needed to support the American way of life. All those public streets and services have to be paid for by somebody. Instead of making smokers pay for these services, wouldn't it be honest and fair just to tax everyone?

I guess that the Governors in their states don't realize that there are over 46,000,000 tax paying smokers in the U.S.A. and that we are getting tired of paying the bills for the miss management of those Governors and their Legislators. If we as smokers would vote against these non smoking bureaucrats maybe then things would change in our favor.
Hey, what the heck is going on with health care and life insurance? Smokers get charged more? What about drinkers, drug users, even bad drivers? Just because we smoke cigerettes, we have to pay more per pack to pay for crap the politicians deem worthy (because they can't manage a budget to save their ass) and we have to pay more for health care and life insurance! I think it's plain and simple DISCRIMINATION! Why do I have to pay for more more more. Tell people to get a freakin job and stop paying out welfare to all these lazy people than can work that don't! I don't mind helping out the folks that can't work but geez! You know another thing that bugs me is the fact do politicans spend millions of dollars overseas on poverty when there is poverty right in our back yard? Again, I don't mind helping out, but I think we should take care of our oun first before sending our hard earned tax dollars overseas. THEN the politicans ask the same people they just taxed for foreign affairs to donate more money to our poverty. I know I contridicted myself within these statements but don't have enough space to thoroughly break this down, my points are valid so don't critize, I think all smokers are taxed out, why do you think I smoke? This country is going down the crapper! Thank god for our troops to maintain our rights or what's left of them.
Cars kill more kids than cigarette smoke inhalation.
Cars pollute the environment more than cigarette smoking.
Everytime a non-smoker drives a car, I have to breathe the car exhaust.
This pollution has, as of yet, unknown health consequences. Everything from cancer to global warming (and monster hurricanes) can be attributed to increased pollution.
Yet, smoker's have the burden of extra taxes to pay for rising health costs and car drivers do not.
Why?
Simple math:
Smokers are a minority.
Car drivers are a majority.
Smokers are a safe class of people to tax because we don't vote against politicians with anti-smoking policies. If you raised car taxes to pay for health issues, you would get a major voter reaction.
Politicians only care about re-election. until smokers fight back with their vote, we will have to pay the tax bill.

I would like to see the reports that the anti smoking campaigns are based on. Yes smoking isn't the best, but, it is relaxing. How do the researchers figure out that any of the ailments that they blame on second hand smoke are true. Does anyone know for sure that any of the people that they say died from second hand smoke would not have died of the ailment any ways.( that was mean) but true. My grand parents were and are smokers. They had a mutt none of the three breads were supposed to live longer than ten years. She died when she was sixteen. Explain that?
